Neptune Memorial

The Neptune Memorial Reef, also known as the Atlantis Reef, lies 3.25 miles off Key Biscayne in the Florida Keys.

The reef is an unique underwater burial site designed by Gary Levine and Kim Brandell .

It was created to accommodate the remains of 850 by mixing ashes with cement to become parts of the living reef. Those laid to rest are commemorated with a memorial plaque. The reef opened in 2007 after requiring extensive permits from the U.S. Army, Florida Fish and Wildlife, NOAA, DERM and the EPA. The reef now spans 16 acres on the ocean floor and has now come into it's own naturally. It is a safe haven for sea life due to fishing bans making it a beautiful diving destination.

New burials and construction have stopped on the reef allowing the reef to flourish. There are no plans for any other burials or additions since the society has disbanded.
